Do you remember the days when joining an online site required a simple profile and photo upload? Well, thanks to enhanced technology, video introductions are now mainstream. If you’ve just joined a site with the option for a video intro be sure to follow these three tips to maximize your odds of scoring a date.

Tip #1 - Be Yourself
Sure it’s tempting to put on a show and pretend to be something you’re not. But is that really the best way to land the

right date for you? Instead pretend you’re talking to a friend, not the camera, and your true, authentic self will emerge.

Tip #2 - Don’t Over-Rehearse
Remember, you’re surfing for dates not acting in a major motion picture. There’s no need to do 500 takes to get it just right. Often first takes come across the most natural and will elicit the best response from prospects.

Tip #3 - Stand Out from the Crowd
While you don’t want to seem fake or over-rehearsed you do want to be different from the thousands of other video intros. So take a few minutes to brainstorm something unique or creative to spice up your video.

What’s the ultimate goal of a first date? It’s to put yourself in the best possible position to score a second date (if you like the person sitting across the table). So how can you boost your odds of making a solid impression. It all starts with first date etiquette. Follow these five tips and you’ll be on your way to a second date and beyond:

Arrive on Time: Leave your date waiting thirty minutes at the table and you’ve got a major strike against you. Remember, punctuality is a sign of respect.
Balance Talking & Listening: Pay attention to the balance of talking and listening. If you’re dominating the conversation back off. If you’re a clam, stop making your date pull teeth.
Drink Responsibly: Okay, so maybe you need a drink or two to loosen up. There’s a big difference between a couple of drinks and getting sloshed.
Be Authentic: If you met online take a look at your online profile before the date for a quick refresher on how you described yourself.
Be Present: It’s easy to get caught up in cell phone calls, text messaging, and the blackberry. Do yourself and your date a favor and save the calls, texts, and emails for after the date.

Will Online Dating Work for You?

I used to be able to make fun of people who used online dating sites without even trying. All I had to do was ask them where they met their date. They knew the stereotype. Online daters were losers who couldn’t get a date any other way. But making fun of my friends is not as much fun as it used to be. Online dating sites are becoming more popular than ever. Now a lot of these sites are targeting the mainstream and a lot of people I know have tried them.

Our world is being taken over by a parallel universe. It’s called cyberspace. Everything we once had to get up and move to do we can now do through the Internet. You can buy anything on E-Bay, you can chat, fall in love through an online dating service, work, and even attend worship services. If Jabba the Hutt were somehow transported into our world without his minions he would do just fine as long as he had a computer with Internet access.

My Online Dating Experience

Dating was hard for me when I was single. I didn’t have the confidence to approach girls. When I went to Chicago for a summer job I didn’t know anyone. Some of my roommates were logging on to a website called Hotornot.com and finding some pretty cool girls so I decided to try it. You have to understand that I never would have tried online dating on my own or if I had a bigger group of friends in the area. I thought online dating was just for losers.
